My pit bull is around nine months old, and she's the most aggressive dog anyone could own. Aggressively affectionate. I cling tightly to the idea that a dog can be the best friend you ever had. They don't laugh at you naked, they always forgive you, and nothing compares to stiffness I wake up with in the morning from her laying across my legs all night. It's heaven. I miss it when I'm not home, and I complain about it when I'm away. Dogs are the perfect friends.
I read a press release from the police in Jackson, Mississippi about a woman that opened fire on a puppy that had "threatened" children. Not only did she shoot the puppy, but she shot and killed her husband in the process.

Can anyone say Darwin Award? And this woman procreated? Oh, what is our gene pool coming to? Now, you might disagree with me when I say this woman was an idiot, it could have been an accident. Just bear with me, and read the rest of the story.
Witnesses told police that the pit bull puppy named "Cocaine" had lunged at some children and tried to attack them on Friday. The dead man's son says the children were taken inside and his father picked the dog up.
I know what you're thinking. Just look at the name of the dog, it must be trouble. The owners are obviously either druggies, possibly training the pup for the fighting pits or just have a strange sense of humor. Let's give them the benefit of the doubt for now...
It was then that police say Betty Walker fired twice, hitting the dog once and her husband once in the chest. Jackson police spokeswoman Colendula Green says the death of 53-year-old Robert Walker appears to have been accidental.
She says a Hinds County grand jury will decide whether to charge Betty Walker.
Animal control officers have taken the dog, and its owner could face charges.
The woman shot the dog while her husband was holding it.
How much common sense can someone possibly lack?
Here's what I don't get. It's a puppy, and we don't know if it was playing or not, but shooting it? I understand the fault of the owners for not controlling their pet, but if no harm was done, I don't think charges are necessary considering the dog was SHOT. I don't think the owners should carry any fault for a woman shooting her husband. I think there should be an investigation to make sure the puppy is in a rightful home. One that will nurture, love, and take care of the dog, but I think I warning or a small fine might do.
Now as for Betty Walker...let's see how she explains to her kids that their father is dead because she shot him while he was holding a puppy. The loss of their dad in addition to him holding a puppy will devastate them. Put that woman away and send the kids somewhere where they will learn that you don't point guns at people, especially if it's someone you are supposed to care about.
